A recall is a serious action. These are the questions we get asked most.
What does it take to trigger a recall election?
Signatures from 20% of the registered voters in each trustee’s area, gathered within 120 days of the notice to recall being published. Every signature must come from a voter registered in that specific area, which is why checking your address to know your area is critical.
Isn’t this just going after individuals?
No. We are going after a governing majority and the way it makes decisions. If the other two seats were not up for re-election, the recall would apply to them. They face voters in November instead.
Is this about TIDE Academy?
TIDE’s closure is what brought many of us together, and it is one clear example of how this board operates. It is not the case for recall. The case is the pattern: no real supervision of the superintendent, processes hidden from the public, and wasteful spending on legal fees because district leaders can't do the right thing unless compelled by a judge. That affects every campus and every family in this district.
Why recall instead of waiting for the next election?
These three seats are not on this November’s ballot. Waiting leaves the current majority in place for years—through the next budget, the next superintendent contract, and whatever it decides next without telling anyone first.
Why only these three trustees?
Because they are the three who won't be up for re-election for several years. This board’s record belongs to all five of its members, but two seats (Area B and Area D) are already on the November 2026 ballot. People in those areas can vote for change shortly. A recall is the only way voters in the other three areas can change the leadership of the board in the near term.
Who pays for a recall election?
The district does. That cost is real, and it is the direct consequence of a board that lost the community’s confidence. The far larger cost is leaving the same decision-makers in place.
What happens if the recall succeeds?
Each recalled trustee will be removed from office, and the open seats will be filled as state and county law allows.
